Home from another long day in the sun, the heat seems to wither me. I’m too tired to do much of anything. So I sit on the porch and wish my life away…
I dream of being on the Caribbean, sailing on a sunset cruise. It’s a dreamy thought to be with you, one I love. Feeling the mist of the ocean salt spraying in my face, I’ll hold you as the waves are crashing over the bow. I wasn’t afraid of capsizing or sinking; it’s too large a boat to do that. But nonetheless, I’ll hold you tight. Feeling you shiver in the evening sunlight, I’ll wrap my blanket around you, knowing you are scared.
The boat comes to rest as the moon rises across the channel; the mountain tops are turning gray as I escort you off the boat. Holding you as night falls, I feel like a pirate in the Caribbean. All I need is a wooden leg and, well, you get the picture.
Sky walking like a parrot, you think I would drown you on our ocean cruise! I try to calm your fears but it’s no use. Like a bird, you wave your arms trying to explain how afraid I made you. Finally, making it back to our room, I tuck you in and say good night.
Now back to my own little world of dogs and sirens, I think the next time I’ll take a cruise with my wife instead of you, my fine feathered friend……..
Drying off from the dream, I realize it’s about time for bed. I smell the salt air as I’m captivated in the clouds. A gentle wind whispers to my flowers. They, too, will enjoy the moon light as it rises for the evening. The door closes and over my head a Pina Colada sails by me. I guess, maybe, you were on my wave length. Or better yet in my dream — sailing with me.
